    it’s been quite a year…

    It’s hard for me to even write this post today…this year has been so weird, for lack of a better word. There were highs and quite a few lows in 2014. I think I’ve had more challenges this year than I have yet in my 35 years of life. When I say I’m ready for 2015, I really mean it. 2014 started off with a bang with some family challenges, getting snowed in multiple times, health issues, broken friendships…and things continued to challenge us (more me because I’m a “dweller”) throughout the year with unforeseen expenses, trying to nail down my health issues (which I finally did 6 months later with…

    whose kingdom? {guest post from amber}

    I’m sure I’ve written this in a blog post before, but I love the Old Testament part of the Bible.  I’m watching out for lightning as I write this (wink!), but I think it might be my favorite.  I mean, I don’t get way into or much out of all those lists in Numbers and all that crazy law in Leviticus, but you guys!, the STORIES!  Who doesn’t love a really good story?  And you can’t make up ones like these… Beyond just the entertainment value, however, there are some seriously deep and cut-to-the-bone lessons in there, and it seems like just about every time I read one of them,…

    God’s Company {guest post from Amber}

    At our house, we really love having company over.  Friends, family, neighbors…we don’t really care, we just like having people over.  Now, I do, in fact, subscribe to that 3-day rule about fish and houseguests, but for a time, they’re fun, we love the newness, the laughing, late night card games, the schedule change, and fancier desserts. The thing about sleep-over company, though, is that after a little while, I need some space.  I need the freedom to be cranky for a minute, to make sandwiches tonight for supper, to stop washing towels for a day or two, and everyone to be quiet.  (My mom told me it gets easier,…

    stolen thoughts {guest post from Amber}

    Any thought not centered on Christ is stolen from Him. St. John of the Cross There’s this old story in the Bible – it follows a really well-known, pizzazz kind of story, so this one, it’s easy to miss.  You’ve probably heard about the Israelites – God’s people – finally getting ready to enter the Promised Land, and the first city they’re going up against is Jericho.  God tells me them to completely destroy everything – every single thing – in the city, except things made out of silver, gold, bronze or iron.  Those were to be consecrated for the Lord’s treasury. Turns out, they didn’t even have to fight…

    real life…

    Any of you who have been around for any length of time know that I want this little corner of the internet to be a positive, encouraging place to go. There is so much negativity in the world that I don’t want to add to that. But today I have to be real. I feel like 2014 has not gotten off to the best start. There has been health issues for most of the year (which thankfully are seeming to work out right now – my digestive issues are healing thanks to Whole30 and I also got positive news that a lump that I found was just a cyst. my…
